Large black bird with long light colored legs and wide wingspan

by Carolyn Ford

Three big black birds appeared in my back yard. They had fairly long light-colored legs and a wide wingspan with white tips on the wings. The largest one had a wheat-colored topknot on his head. One of them pecked the smallest one, who then flew off. The other two flew to the roof of my house and perched there. They were larger than crows, but didn't look like a buzzard. Can you help me identify them?
