KC gray bird with red beak

by Sherry
(KC, KS, USA)

This bird has been throwing himself at our large plate glass window for months and sits on the doorhandle and pecks at glass - weird! He is medium sized gray with a short red beak (fully red) and darker red tail feathers. He is much larger than the sparrows that normally hang out in our area, but have never seen a bird like this. He is not a red-headed woodpecker as his head and body are mostly medium to dark gray, just has the short red beak. He is relentless against the windows.
