Is it drinking on it own ? NEW
by: Margaret Mariam

How long have you had it ? Could it be stunned from flying into a tree/window/wall ? Is it drinking unassisted, or are you giving it water with a dropper/syringe/your fingers ? Keeping it comfortable and safe overnight is the right thing to do. Especially since most rehabilitators/rescues are not open late at night. (The MSPCA, a huge animal hospital, will euthanize any wild birds brought in.)

See if it can stand in the morning. If it is a spinal injury, only a very dedicated vets can help with that. For now, see if you can get it to eat and drink, while you try to find someone to help. I do have a rehab person, but I'm a long distance from you in Boston, MA. While you watch it over the next 24-36 hours, see if it is urinating/defecating, eating, drinking, etc. I have seen birds that are stunned recuperate after a day or so. If it is not eating/drinking or showing any signs of recovery after a day or two; the kindest thing to do may be humane euthanasia.
You don't want the bird to suffer in pain.

Be sure to keep the bird in a box or cage that is covered and keep it in a quiet, cool, dark room but no draft.

I would call the Wildlife Center or Bird Rescues in your area.
