We live in SW virginia and we see these birds every night. There are thousands of these small black birds that usually fly east to west at dusk. The swarm around prior to landing in trees.

European Starlings?

Here in Seattle I see this every night, hundreds of European Starlings swarm then roost in the trees that line the trees downtown. Loud voices, constantly chattering.They look quite dark in plumage as the light fades.
