is it a titmouse?

Unfortunately I don't have a picture but I saw this bird this summer in my backyard which is wooded and contains lot of native plants. The bird looks like a titmouse (crested head) but its color is is brown. The bird seemed to be spending most of its time on the ground.I have tried all kinds of bird identification websites but I can"t find any birds that are both brown and crested in my area. Can somebody help?

Maybe a female Cardinal NEW

Female cardinals are mostly brown with a little red. But they have a thick red bill just like the males. My Titmice hardly ever stay on the ground. My juvenile Cardinals are usually blotchy red & brown- really scraggly looking. Hope you can find a picture somewhere to compare it to.
