Injured bird

He dove down and skidded on his belly, I think a cat got him..he has a (black) spotted tummy, and stripes of bright orange on his wings and under his tail feathers. And a huge, long beak. I've found a pic online of him, but no name..

Northern flicker Thought for a minute Looking at the picture it was a young Pectoral Sandpiper then I read the coloring I Gotta agree with brook on Northern Flicker Shame it Died ..............

Thank you, he did end up dying shortly after I scooped him up :( but my daughter and I were super curious about him. Those orange stripes/feathers were beautiful.

This a Northern Flicker which is the woodpecker family. It's diet is ants but they love suet! If it is injured your local Audubon Society will take it free of charge, they will release it back into the wild when it has healed.
