Identity Needed in MD

Came to work this morning to find this little guy on the concrete outside the entrance. No other birds around (still dark out) and no nearby bushes/trees for nests. He didn't seem injured but also didn't want to fly away. He flew a foot over to a tiny dead bush but came right back to the walkway. I held him a little more to check him out and after about 15 minutes he finally flew off to a nearby fence area into the grass. I haven't seem him since, praying he was okay. But I could not find out what kind of bird this was. Thanks for your help!
