Identifying this bird found on shores of Lake Huron in Grindstone City, MI


Low flying, did not spook easy, merely moved further down lake shore as we walked closer. Seemed to be eating in shallow water at rocky shoreline.

thank you! such a beautiful bird! amazing to see it. i didnt think to research herons because the only one's i have seen are tall.

It's a Green-backed Heron, common at water areas feeds on small frogs insects, and fishes.

    Tourquoise bird, cardinal size and similar wing pattern and has a beige beak. Except for the beak color, looks like a Indigo Bunting. Is this a juvie??
