I was able to hold it and took a pic

I saw this bird on the way to school and I was wondering what type it was. It didn't say anything but didn't peck or try to get away. I think it was injured because it was on the side of the road but I couldn't see anything. I placed it at the bottom of the nearest tree so it was out of the way. Should I try to find it and look after it or should I leave it to nature?

You did the right thing. The best thing is always to leave it to nature unless the bird is in danger or injured.
