help please

I got this picture in Northern New Jersey in a swampy forest. I cannot really figure out what species of bird this is. any help would be appreciated

Thanks for your input, The lack of crest was really what was throwing me. I couldn't figure if it was the immature of some other species.

Zack, this photo is a great capture. I believe the bird is a female Cardinal. They are able to fold back the crest on top of their head like in your photo.

cardinal?

I think this is a female northern cardinal or possibly an immature. The color is typical of a female cardinal it is the lack of a crest that is a little odd but I have seen it a few times.
