help identify small bird

I rescued an injured tiny bird from our park in Toronto Ontario Canada last week. I was too involved in capturing it to take it to the local Humane Society that I didn't take a picture.

It seemed to be an adult, dark brown/blackish back, grey underbelly with two orangey stripes on either side of the head. This is what I seem to remember. It wasn't a sparrow.
