Groupies

by Dot Moore
(Richmond va)

Comes to patio in groups of maybe 10-small birds-ground feeders-hop around quickly. Dark grey, white breast and yellow beak.

Rain and snow doesn't deter them.

Sounds like a Dark-eyed "slate Colored" Junco to me NEW
by: GaryE

I do not live too far from you (I am just outside DC in Silver Spring MD). We get lots of Dark-eyed "Slate-colored" Junco's at our feeders . . . specifically feeding on the ground picking at seeds other birds throw out on to the ground and at our thistle feeder. They typically behave exactly as you describe them.

See here for pics and more details:

and let us know if those are indeed your groupies!
