Ground walker (not hopping),LONG skinny beak in CT

A good sized bird that is brownish tan with black edging, then white edging at the top of wings when folded. Has a really long, skinny beak ( maybe 3") Have seen it only on ground (mate, too) - don't know flight style. This is in north central Connecticut.
