Great Blue Heron but WHITE? West Charlotte, VT 4/26/11

by M Price
(Charlotte, VT USA)

Saw an all white - except maybe for some dark spots beneath at rump-tail, crane feeding in my frog pond around noon today. Sharp yellow bill, tall - small crest on top of head, i believe... feeding on frogs. Kinda skittish. I looked at it with binoculars from inside the house 250 feet away and it still saw me. It flew off and circled back to pond to feed again for awhile. Bird at least 4 feet and more likely 5 feet tall. Have not seen one this size, all white, in VT before. Florida - yes.
May or may not have had some black at end of wingtips. But I think just all white. Camera was in car ... sorry! Bird would not let me go get it!
