Gray Jay visitors in Eureka, CA this morning

by Jeanine
(Eureka, CA)

I live on the north coast of California above Humboldt Bay. I was standing in a spot of sun this morning on my deck when 5 gray Jays showed up. When I first moved to this wooded property in 1986, we had 3 or 4 that would show up and eat cat food. They left that winter and very rarely saw anymore. I was delighted to have them visit this morning. Not frightened of me at all, but didn't like the Stellar Jay that moved in when I poured seed on the deck railing. What a morning, to have these guys visit. It was great - had humming birds on their feeder, juncos everywhere, the ever present Stellars and then these welcome Gray Jays. Hope they stick around. What a nice morning.
