friendly small brown spotted fuzzy bird in North East Ga mountains

by Peggy
(Ft Myers Fl, USA)

Near Clayton, Georgia, I was inside a large metal building doing some work when I turned around and saw that this bird had landed on the concrete floor. I got quite close and ended up sitting a few feet away for about 45 minutes. Then I got up and went back to work. About ½ hr later the bird was gone. Does anyone know what kind of bird this is?

Yes, As I thought about Tammy's mistake it became clear to me that she what she meant to say was a Chestnut-backed Chickadee. Thank you Tammy for the correction

Hi Peggy,
Neither am I! :) ours is a chestnut backed Chicadee and we have them all over our back deck. They also have a black cap and their call is the familiar Chickadee song. I'll see if I can post a picture - they are very friendly and are the last to take flight if I approach them. Oftentimes they keep right on eating!

Thanks for the Chickadee ID NEW
by: Peggy

Tammy. I'm no bird expert. So I looked on the internet under images for Black Capped Chickadee and I can't see the similarity, even for pictures of juveniles. Maybe I'm missing something or maybe the photo I posted was not very clear.

Thanks for your response!

Sorry - we have chestnut-backed chickadees here. They do have a brown red back, with white on the wings. They also have a black cap. Just got confused! Maybe their range does not include Florida.

Hi Peggy, I am in total disagreement with Tammy. There is no Brown on the back of a Black-capped Chickadee and the headed is black along with a large black facial marking, also there are no multiple white wing tips like this bird has so this is most definitely not a black-capped chickadee. I am not certain as to what it is but it is possibly a sparrow.
