Flicker after my Chihuahua

by Dana
(Milwaukee, WI)

I live outside of Milwaukee, WI today was the first time I've ever seen a Flicker! It was literally following my Chihuahua around the backyard for over 5 minutes. I originally thought it was just a regular woodpecker. When my dog finally came back inside, the bird flew away.

When the bird took flight I saw the brilliant yellow under the wings. I was in awe it was so beautiful! I've lived in WI and MN my whole life and never seen one before. I hope he sticks around!

Nearby nest? NEW

It was likely trying to chase your dog away due to a nearby nest it was guarding?
