Woodpeckers Eat All Wasps and Hornets

by Margaret Thompson
(MORGAN COUNTY, HARTSELLE, ALABAMA)

More than once woodpeckers have exterminated large hornets and paper wasp nests. One day the nests are there, the next day all we find is shredded paper nests!

We rarely see them and respect their privacy. They live in our wooded area and we hear them daily. Our neighbors have cut down most of the trees so they live with us.

They are quite beautiful.

Thank you Margaret for reminding our readers of how valuable woodpeckers are to us! And yes they are very beautiful. I hope they have lots of nestlings in your trees too!
Happy Birding,
Susan
