New family

We have in our back yard dead pecan tree. And for several years small woodpeckers where very busy on this tree. Finally they dig a nesting hole. They occupied the tree for several years. This past winter suddenly appeared on the tree Red bellied wood peckers and they start enlarging the hole. When I sew flying wood chips from the hole I taught that they push the wood chips with legs. But by my surprise they been spiting the chips from the beak several times till they empty their mouth. Now is already June, end on the tree is lot of movement flying in and out from the hole. Also, I can see very often head of the Red bellied woodpecker sticking out of the hole, like if it watching whats happening in the backyard.

Hey, Congratulations on your new family. Red bellied woodpeckers are so much fun to watch. I have one that comes around in the winter and he always knows when I put new suet out. He will eat the seeds, but he loves suet. We have lots of oaks and pines, but I don't think ours nest around the house. They prefer the hollow trees farther away. have fun watching them raise the babies. Happy Birding!
