Cardinal Cafe

by Fred
(Ohio)

This cardinal has bottomed out

My first son and I made this feeder 21 years ago and it has been in the yard every since.I have named it Cardinal Cafe because I have several cardinals eating out of it exclusively. Some of the honored guests are a Northern Flicker, Titmouse, chickadees, and of course house finches.

Woodpeckers visit only when suet is added and this feeder has been painted about 3 times. I was about to discard it when I noticed that the cardinals just kept trying to eat out of it even when it sat empty all summer. They love this feeder and now that I have filmed them eating from it this week by setting my new
Wingscapes WSCA02 BirdCam 2.0 with Flashon it I have decided to renovate it and keep those beautiful cardinals happy.

This Northern flicker visits my feeders every day and has to fight off the black birds but usually succeeds. He is so well dressed in his suit and tie. He really shins with a golden glow from under his feathers as he flies. He just seems out of place all dressed up and dinning with all those other more common birds.

Wonderful story Fred! (great captions, too!) And yes, that Flicker is a Yellow-Shafted. Could you send us a better picture of this bird feeder of yours?
