FEMALE SUMMER TANAGER

by Shirl Abrahamson
(Jacksonville,NC)

This is the first tanager I have spotted this year. The photos are not so good as I had to take them from inside my house so I didn't scare her away. I am hoping to see a male soon!

Female Summer Tanager

I have one too in my feeder - I live in Missouri and it is cold here! I am worried that she got lost in the migration and am trying to find out if she will make it through the winter here. I have bird seed out but found that she likes peanuts so I have been keeping her in the peanuts. Will she find her group. Is there anything else I can do for her. I am so worried she won't make through our harsh winters here.

Thanks - any help or suggestions is appreciated!
