Even my birding book didn't know

Live in Middlesex County, Virginia. Just saw a cute little bird, about the size of a sparrow, brown back, wings and head, creamy chest. He or she has a crest of feathers on the head similar to a tufted titmouse, maybe a little smoother. May be nesting inside my pole barn. I'm stumped.
