Donna's Angel

Strange as is this story sounds it is true!

My mom passed away at the age of 51 after fighting a 15 year battle with lung cancer.

When mom passed I was devastated and so were my daughters. My then 11 year-old daughter loved to draw pictures, especially for her Nanu, so naturally she wanted to draw a special picture and send it to heaven so her gram would remember her.

Well she drew a pic of a beautiful gray dove and put it in the casket with mom to send to heaven. Mom passed 4 days after her birthday.

The following year on July 27th (mom's birthday) I'm standing at a gas station and this pigeon (or so I thought ) walks over to me and just stays there. I thought he was injured I gently scooped him up and took him to a vet. There I was told he was a mourning dove and I should release him back I nursed him back to health.

Well to make a long story short after nursing him I had fallen in love with him and that's when my daughter said mom that's Nanu - remember the pic!

We all burst into tears and well we kept him and have had ever since!

Its been 9 years and his song is mom saying "hi."

Thank you for letting me share my story!

This is a beautiful story....and reminds me of what happened when my husband passed away. He was in a Hospice house (also cancer) and we had been called during the night, saying that he had taken a turn for the worse and had only hours to live. So we went to his bedside and when dawn came a little finch came and sat outside his window. He stayed there until my husband took his last breaths and then flew away....as if carrying his soul to heaven. My husband and I were both avid bird watchers so it just seemed right!!

Carol, you must love it when a finch comes and visits your yard.
