cranes nesting in my trees

by Pamela Wallace
(Houston, Texas, Harris)

I have two cranes that has nested in my oak tree (about 50 feet up) for the last two years. The had two babies last year and this year they are just now making the next.

They have black feathers with yellow stripes on their heads. They are about two feet tall and do not have long legs. Their claws are also yellow. They have thick black beaks about six to eight inches long. They make a very loud noise like a loud squawk.

They are very beautiful. What are they Oh, by the way I live in Houston, Texas close to a bayou.
