Crane? Heron? Egret?

I've lived in this house for 20 years but this is the first time I've seen these in my yard. Very large, long legs, long neck, tannish-brownish color with some speckling. At first I thought they were some kind of heron but someone else said they were sandhill cranes. The pictures I've seen of sandhill cranes don't seem to have as long necks as the birds in my yard.


I wish I could have gotten closer but I was so afraid of scaring them before I got a picture!
