Completely black hummingbird...people say it doesn't exist...

by Kristin
(Tennessee)

Earlier today a solid black hummingbird flew into our house...it was really small, even for hummingbird size. It was trying to fly out a window that was closed...My mother got it to sit on a broom trying to get it out so we were able to get a good look at it...It had no markings or anything peculiar about it except it was solid black. And I don't have any pictures of it. We thought it would be a good idea just to see what type it was and I can't find anything. Every site I go to says that they don't exist. I can't find anything out about this bird... I was just hoping somebody could tell me what kind of bird it was.

HI,
Contact the Tennessee Ornithology Department, they will know what it was. There are quite a few Audubon Societies in Tennessee also.
