CANADA GEESE NEST

by MARY
(SOUTHAMPTON, NY)

THIS YEAR A PAIR OF CANADA GEESE NESTED IN AN ABANDONED OSPREY NEST THAT WAS APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET OFF THE GROUND. WE WERE CONCERNED ABOUT THE CHICKS SURVIVAL, ASSUMING THEY WOULD LEAVE THE NEST FAIRLY QUICKLY. SUDDENLY, THE GEESE WERE GONE AND A FEW DAYS LATER A PAIR OF OSPREY TOOK OVER THE NEST AGAIN. WE'D NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE??

Normally geese nest near the shoreline.
I've never heard of geese nesting up high!
