Bright yellow and orange birds

Western Tanager

Western Tanager

I live in Portland, Oregon and I have been seeing a pair of yellow and orange birds that look like a tropical parakeet or something. Anyone know what they could be?

I have uploaded a photo of a Western Tanager. Any resemblance?

I thought they were parrots too!! North of Toronto NEW
by: Anonymous

I live north of Toronto and have seen what I thought was someones Parrot also at my feeder!!! Trying to get a picture but they fly before i can. I have set out some oranges in a recycled clear container on my pole as I also believe I have Baltimore Orioles. But I'm pretty sure the parrot looking bird is different. Much bigger and looks like a cow bird but in orange!!. My mom thinks they are Tanangers. I'm so thrilled and scout out for them early in the a.m. at my feeder

tanagers

Yes they are summer tanagers! They look a lot like the one you posted except they only have a tiny bit of black on the tip of their wings but are mainly bright yellow with orange on their head. Thank you so much, I discovered tanagers yesterday, it seems like they aren't a typical bird to see in the NW, wonder why they are here, but I'm glad they are!

Susan, my husband saw a Western Tanager here, too, last week. I have never seen one before. We live 25 miles south of Seattle.

Hi Judy! I use to see them occasionally in my yard, here in British Columbia, but it has been a few years. Susan
