Blueish grey bird with red band on nape of neck and yellow underparts

by Misty Elliott
(Kannapolis, NC)

Found 3 plump birds in my parents' garage attic. They are about the size of a blue jay. Blue/grey in color with yellow belly ,under wings, and under tail. The yellow has black spots. There is a red band across the back of the neck. The head is round with a kind of long slender bill. I'm in Kannapolis, NC. These birds are gorgeous. I've never seen them before and can't find them online.

It's hard to gues without knowing the size of the bird. But I think it could be a Yellow-shafted Flicker.
