Little dude at my feader in Niagara On today NEW
by: Toni

We are close to the North shore of Lake Erie about 25 km from the falls. This little guy gets around. His fanned out tail shows equal sections of black, white, black, white feathers. Only his head seemed iridescent. I'll get a zoom lens and try to catch him later today or the same time tomorrow morning.

Black bird

I live in Algonac Michigan. First time I've ever seen this bird. Looks like a black bird but has white tail feathers. It's been coming to my feeders everyday now for 2 weeks. There's only one. Very pretty.

I saw this bird in my yard. I have 5 plus acres with many bird feeders. I saw one today for first time. Had an opal like shimmer in his head like a grackle but had long we hire tail feathers. I live in mid eastern Michigan north of Flint

Found very still
by: J C

I found a bird like tbis lying against the base of a pine tree. Barely moved when I touched it, even with two dogs in tow. I brought it in to warm it up, but it seems like it is a winter bird????

Seen in the UK
by: MrJHooton

I am certain I have just seen one of these birds in England... which is strange because if it is a Grackle then it should not be in the UK.

It was a grey, wet, misty winter day late in the afternoon with not much light (temperature a few degrees above freezing) and I saw this black bird in a tree. About the size of crow or Jackdaw but built more like a garden blackbird.

And when it flew away there was that striking white feather in the middle of the tail! Your photo looks just like the bird I saw!

Maybe it had escaped from a collection, can't think otherwise why this 'possible Grackle' might have been in England on a grey day in winter...

Seeing one here too.
by: Springfield, IL

We get a ton of grackles every year. Saw one of these briefly and was wishfully hoping for a mocking bird. Seems to be a different grackle now that I've seen him/her a few times. Ah well...

Hybrid Grackle??
by: Anonymous

It looks like a Grackle but I "googled" it and came up with this link. You should check it out. Apparently your bird isn't the only one but no one seems to know WHAT it is.

I also say the following comment about the feathers:
"If you don't find your bird, sometimes individual feathers will lack pigment."
Good luck!
