Seen in the UK NEW
by: MrJHooton

I am certain I have just seen one of these birds in England... which is strange because if it is a Grackle then it should not be in the UK.

It was a grey, wet, misty winter day late in the afternoon with not much light (temperature a few degrees above freezing) and I saw this black bird in a tree. About the size of crow or Jackdaw but built more like a garden blackbird.

And when it flew away there was that striking white feather in the middle of the tail! Your photo looks just like the bird I saw!

Maybe it had escaped from a collection, can't think otherwise why this 'possible Grackle' might have been in England on a grey day in winter...

On the ground, with other black birds, but smaller and slimmer. white streaks on both sides and when it flew away from me the whole tail was white! Very white.

Seeing one here too.

We get a ton of grackles every year. Saw one of these briefly and was wishfully hoping for a mocking bird. Seems to be a different grackle now that I've seen him/her a few times. Ah well...

Hybrid Grackle??
by: Anonymous

It looks like a Grackle but I "googled" it and came up with this link. You should check it out. Apparently your bird isn't the only one but no one seems to know WHAT it is.

I also say the following comment about the feathers:
"If you don't find your bird, sometimes individual feathers will lack pigment."
Good luck!
