black woodpecker?

I have a black and white woodpecker with gray belly and face, no red nowhere. it looks like a woodpecker and climbs down trees like one and sounds like one and I'm pretty good with my birds but can't figure him out. He is real pretty and almost all black except for a solid bar across his mid back. help

Diffrent bird NEW

It has been eating the corn and tearing up the suet but will not hang around any other woodpeckers. His head is brown like a cow bird but has a white belly.

I was also baffled by this bird. We have several red headed woodpeckers that come to our feeders. I'm sure what I have is at least 2 immature red headed woodpeckers. They are beautiful. This bird looks the same to me.

Likely it is a juvenile woodpecker. Several species of juvenile woodpeckers fit your description.

New bird in the past two days
by: Marilyn

I have in my back yard a new bird just like they are describing above. He is solid black top except for a white pattern on the lower parts of his wings. He has a white bellie and no red anywhere. His head is totally different from a red-bellied which I also have and I also have a red headed woodpecker, I also have a hairy wood pecker. I have a picture of my bird and will send it in if you can help identify would be great as I have not been able to find anything close to it on the internet.

Thank you.

By your description I am guessing it is a juvenile red headed woodpecker.

It is grey with a long beak and a white ring around it's neck. The bird is about the size of a dove and I live in Florida near the Georgia line.
