Bird

Body of bird was gray with a black horizontal patch on chest. When it flew off it had a white bum which I didn't see when it was on the ground pecking for worms. It was the size of a blue jay. Very sleek. Sorry but no picture for I saw it when I was in the bathroom getting ready for work. I live in Haliburton Ontario. I have never seen this bird before and its not in my field identification book of North American Birds. Can you tell me what this bird is.Thankyou in advance.
