Bird trying to drink from hummingbird feeders

by Lori Rutherford
(Cortland, IN rural area)

This bird is about the size of a finch. It is golden brown in color with brown speckles on it's chest and some on it's wings and back.

Of course I try to take a picture, but it flies away...

I had 2 of them around my hummingbird feeders this week.

The hummingbirds don't seem to mind, but I'm sure they would prefer these brown speckled birds would leave them alone.

I know they are not sparrows.

Thank you for you help

Finches in LV do the same thing!
by: Virginia S

I have red and yellow housefinches, as well as sparrows in my yard in Las Vegas, who do the same thing. I'm not sure if the hummingbirds don't mind, or just give them space since they are bigger.
