What type of bird is this that killed the wren? Was it the result of the winter storm?

Roger, your post got my curiosity up. So I searched through my bird book. It's a Loggerhead Shrike. It says that they're declining and endangered in some parts of the Northeast and uncommon elsewhere. They eat insects, small birds and rodents. Your photo is very good and helped me to find it in my book.
