Bird keeps trying to nest in attic

by Linda
(Sacramento CA)

Within the last five years this/these birds were nesting in my attic after tearing off the outside vent covers. I had the flimsy metal screen covers replaced to keep the bird(s)out. Last year was the first year they were not able to get back in. However, the last few weeks one is back and persistently keeps pecking away at the heavy duty screens. The bird is the size of a blue jay, brown in color with the underside of wings a beautiful orange and has a long beak. Been in same house 25 yrs and never saw these birds until 5 yrs ago - Any idea what it is? Thanks for your help.
