Bird I can't find in any birdbooks

by Cherryl
(Belpre, OHIO)

Wish I had a picture, but bird visits only occasionally and I'm never prepared to take a picture. I have searched every birdbook

I can find at the book store and haven't seen this bird anywhere.

It looks quite like a male cardinal, except from its neck up it is gray-blue and has no crown. The beak is orange like a cardinal's and the rest of the body is bright red. The wings have a little streaking of brown.

We live in Belpre, Ohio on the Ohio/WV border.

Anyone have any idea what this bird is?
