Bird hit the second floor window and was lying on the deck below

About starling size but sleeker. Wing edges and tail were black and white zig zag like a downy woodpecker. Head and body were brownish-grayish-tan speckled like a house sparrow. Beak was dark, long and pointed. Underside was creamy yellow. This bird was lying on its back motionless until my husband nudged it with his foot and it flipped over. It sat like that for about a half hour and I didn't take a picture because I was sure it wasn't going to make it and I'd be able to look at it as long as I wanted to. It then looked around for a few minutes and flew away. I live on a lake in southeastern Wisconsin and we see migrating birds occasionally but I've never seen one like this and can't find it online.
