Bird found on beach

by Arleen

My grandmother found a little bird on the beach, on the sand, beind a rock. It looks like a baby and cannot fly and looks like it can barely walk. It doesn't really look like anything is broken but I'm not 100% sure. I don't know much about birds but I would like some help identifying this bird so that I know what it needs to be fed and so I can hopefully care for it until it's ready to be released. Any info will help. Thanks in advance.

Immediately give it water! It looks like it is a young bird and the parents were most likely watching it. The best thing you can do for it is to put it back where it was found unless it doesn't look well. Birds rarely survive when people try to raise them unless it is a trained professional. If you can't take it back you need to take it to a wildlife care center or an Audubon Society. It will not live long in your care even if you know what and how to feed it. It will never be able to learn how to survive on it's own, these are things the parent teaches the little ones.
