Injured Eagle

The Battle Over Territory

Three eagles came together at 5:30am and grabbed each other and twirled around and around, until they hit the garage roof out front of my door.

They than fell to the ground and the third one got up and took off. The other two either had a good hold of each other before the impact or after the impact, their talons were lodged deeper into each others body.

At any rate they rolled around for several hours locked in a death grab, until Adrian (a birder friend of mine) heard of it and went out with two towels and separated them.

They had done alot of damage to each other! Eagle #2 is the one that is most likely dead by now. It had lost too many major feathers from it's left wing. Because he couldn't fly well enough to grab prey, he probably is dead from starvation.

The other was the one I got the best shots of because it couldn't perch. It had to stay on the ground. I was very worried about both of them.

However, Nature can be seemly cruel and we have to understand and accept the ways. No doubt a fight over territory.

Wayne. Stay tuned.

Thank you for posting. It is interesting how nature works and to see that animals can be as cruel as humans and sad!!!
