because of the dappled sunlight i could not make oput it,s head, but i looked at it,s tail. i think it could be either a red-shouldered hawk or a swaison,s hawk, they say the red-shouldered hawk likes moist places but i had one in my yard 2 miles from knott,s berry farm, no streams around and the swaison,s hawk likes open prairie and is the most common Canadian hawk.

since oregon has both environments, it depends where you live.

This is a hawk but it is difficult to ID the specific species.

You can send your pic up to Audubon and they will give you a positive ID if you don't want to give it a try. Below are the tools for you to use if you choose.
