Baby California bird

by Michael McGee
(TX, USA.)

My daughter found this beautiful baby in a Los Angeles street today.

After taking it to a vet, she would like to take it home, if possible.
Thanks for any help IDing this sweetie.

Hi, It's not a baby but it could have been hatched last spring. It is a house finch but if your grand daughter is planning on keeping it as a pet it will most likely die. It was born in the wild and will not adjust to being kept in a cage especially by someone who is not a professional. The kindest thing to do is to set it free as close as possible to where she found it.
