because they nest on the ground, I think this baby was ok before you took it. I read of a person who took in a baby killdeer and it died because it needs to see it's parents teaching it how to feed. Maybe you could go back to search for parents?

That's a killdeer- it's nest is on the ground and it looks old enough that it was probably following it's mother around looking for food.
