Are they woodpeckers or doves?

I seen these birds outside today & have never seen them before. They seem to be a adult & baby. They were digging in the grass maybe for grubs. When they flew away they seemed to fly & land like a woopecker would. I have seen a adult redheaded woodpecker in the area in the past yrs. They are like the size of a dove. I live in the wny area. Just wondering what they are.
