Are these Birds Tanagers?

by Bettie Watts

Looking through old files ,I found photos of 2 birds... Undoubtedly when I took the photo I assumed the red one was a cardinal. As I looked back through them tonight I found a couple that were of the pair together so I assume they were mates. I don't know if the knot on the femaile's head is a growth or from something belse. The male looks a little sickly too or maybe he is sooo happy.

Thanks

Thank you. I knew they weren't cardinals.

House Finch NEW
by: Kris

Looks like a House Finch, the male is red and female is plain brown/grey. They are about 5" in size. They feed at feeders, fruit, and tree buds.
Male and female travel together and both feed their young.
A cardinal will be a brighter red in color and 8" in size.
