On home from a lunch break, I was headed out the door and glanced out my living room window. The flash of red caught my attention, so I stopped to take a closer look.
At first I thought it was a woodpecker of some sort seeing the black and white speckles with the red patch, but once I looked closely it was clearly not a woodpecker! I had never seen a Grosbeak before so I grabbed my Petersons Guide to identify it.
There were actually 3 of them eating buds from trees and visiting a deck feeder that had 2 berry suet cages attached. They were clearly looking for the suet but it had been emptied over the weekend by titmice, finches and black capped chickadees. I'm refilling today as I'm sure they would have stayed longer and I would have better pictures!! I could only get the "backside".
