There are inexpensive ant guards made to hang your feeder from. They're filled with water and your feeder hangs below.

You can fine them at Duncraft;

I use a shepherd hook to hang my feeder and grease it with vasoline or any grease that will stay.

If you have a pole your feeder is hanging from, then slap a bunch of axle grease on the bottom of the pole .. works fine for me..
