The Big Year
Hollywood Comes To Join Me In Birdwatching!
The Big Year, a comedy movie about birdwatching, has done some of it's filming in the Okanagan Valley.
In my About Me page, I have written of how I live in one of the prime birdwatching areas of North America.
And now Hollywood is coming to go birdwatching! Jack Black, Steve Martin and Owen Wilson will soon be here to shoot scenes for the comedy about birdwatching, called The Big Year.
Black, Martin and Wilson star as competitive birdwatchers. The script is based on the book The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession, by Mark Obmascik.
Based on a true story, the three stars are participants in a birdwatching competition and traverse the nation for a year in search of the obscurest birds. The winner spots 745 species.
Director is David Frankel who has done Marley & Me and The Devil Wears Prada.
So now you know! The Okanagan Valley is one of the premier destinations for birdwatchers. Just ask Hollywood!
I highly recommend reading The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession, by Mark Obmascik.
It is pure enjoyment. Author, Obmascik, delightfully describes The Big Year contest - which is something like 'The Ironman of Birding.' The three birders are each as crazy as a woodpecker drumming on a tin chimney. Wonderful description of the migration of birds, and a must read for any lover of birds.
