1st time at the feeder

(Lake Holiday, LaSalle Co., IL)

i built plain wood box frame with wire screen stretched across it and placed it on our deck. it's filled safflower seeds for the various birds and squirrels. today, i spotted a beautiful bird i couldn't identify. looking through your site i discovered it to be a rose breasted grosbeak. i've never seen this species before and i hope it stays in the neighborhood as it is a nice addition to the bluejays, gold finches, woodpeckers and chickadees.

The Grosbeaks are on their migratory path north, so do enjoy while they are in your neighbourhood.
